The idea of no afterlife is consistent with atheism. That much is true. But stating that morality would be of no concern to an atheist, is totally irrelevant to any discussion about afterlife. Any attempt to correlate morality with an afterlife makes me think that your sole purpose in life is to expect god's approval, especially if the statement goes as follows...
"If you don't believe in God then you have no hope in any case and morality should not be an issue for you"
I find this rationale really strange for devoted christians... It's like admitting that if you didn't expect god's approval in the end, you wouldn't be morally wholesome... So much for NOT expecting something in return and instead being a sincere altruist?
After all, morality is of the utmost importance to many atheists. And that's because morality should have as little to do with belief as possible. Much more important indeed are moral values for everyone who does not believe in an afterlife, as they want to live their only chance in existence in the best way possible. Thus, morality assumes a far more practical role as it keeps societies alive and functional. Not that it should be treated with more respect than it's worth or adhered to unconditionally and without question, lest we follow in the footsteps of Kant...
